Common questions

When does GloveBox launch?

GloveBox is in development for iPhone and Android. Join the launch list and we'll email you when it's available.

Which adapter do I need?

GloveBox works with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) adapters that use the ELM327 command set. We test with the Veepeak OBDCheck BLE, and we'll publish a full list of supported adapters at launch.

If you use an iPhone, choose an adapter that is listed as working with iPhone or iOS. iPhones can't connect to "Bluetooth Classic" adapters, which are common among very cheap models.

Will it work with my car?

Every gas-powered car and light truck sold in the U.S. from the 1996 model year on has the standard diagnostic port GloveBox uses. Diesel vehicles were required from 2008. Most hybrids work; fully electric vehicles report much less through this port.

Where is the diagnostic port?

It's a 16-pin trapezoid-shaped connector under the dashboard on the driver's side, usually within a foot of the steering column. In some cars it's behind a small cover or near the center console.

The app can't find my adapter. What should I try?
  • Turn the ignition to on, or start the engine. Many adapters only power up with the car on.
  • Connect from inside GloveBox, not from your phone's Bluetooth settings. BLE adapters don't pair there.
  • Make sure Bluetooth is on and GloveBox has Bluetooth permission in your phone's settings.
  • Close any other car-scanning app. Most adapters connect to only one app at a time.
  • Unplug the adapter for ten seconds, then plug it back in.

Still stuck? Email us with your phone model, adapter model and vehicle.

Is it OK to clear a code?

Clearing a code turns off the warning light, but it doesn't fix the problem. If the cause is still there, the light will come back.

Clearing also resets your car's emissions readiness checks, which can take a few days of normal driving to complete again. Avoid clearing codes right before an emissions or state inspection.

Can I use GloveBox while driving?

No. Scan when parked, or have a passenger use the app. Keep your attention on the road.

Does GloveBox replace a mechanic?

No. GloveBox helps you understand what your car is reporting and how urgent it is, so you can make an informed decision. A code points to where a problem is detected, not always its exact cause. For repairs, and for anything affecting brakes, steering or airbags, see a qualified mechanic.

How do I delete my account and data?

You'll be able to delete your account from the app's settings, or by emailing support@goglovebox.com. See our privacy policy for details.
